Stabat Mater by Pergolesi
Pergolesi's Stabat Mater is one of the most beautiful and haunting compositions in religious classical music. It tells the story of Mary's sorrow standing by the cross. Pergolesi composed his Stabat Mater for two solo voices, strings and organ. He completed his work just before his death in 1736 at the age of twenty-six.Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater’s duets are special. The voices of soprano Olga Zinovieva and countertenor Clint van der Linde color these movements in a special way. Their interpretation of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater unleashes a broad spectrum of human emotions that will touch the soul of every listener.
Other composers were also inspired by the text of the Stabat Mater, a poem written around 1300 in honor of the Virgin Mary. You will also listen to the Stabat Maters of two other Italian composers: Vivaldi and Boccherini. Countertenor Clint van der Linde can rightly be called a specialist in his performance of the Stabat Mater by the Venice-born Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi (1678–1741). His Stabat Mater version is a kind of chamber cantata for countertenor, string orchestra, and organ from 1712. Vivaldi's Stabat Mater can be considered one of the most important compositions of 18th-century Italian sacred music. The Stabat Mater by Luigi Boccherini (1743–1805) was written for soprano solo and string quintet. Its transparent and intimate character, combined with beautiful vocal lines, is an excellent match for the ethereal soprano voice of Olga Zinovieva. An unknown jewel in baroque music that will undoubtedly touch you.
