Avifauna in Alphen aan den Rijn is a place full of surprises! Did you know, for example, that flamingos often stand on one leg to regulate their body temperature or to give their other leg a rest? New! Vulture Valley ‘Umvikeli’

This impressive aviary of over 2000 m² is home to the seriously endangered group of Rüppell's vultures, taken in by Avifauna. The vultures live here together with white-headed vultures, hooded vultures and Egyptian vultures. Many other special African birds such as hoopoes, secretary birds and tricoloured starlings also inhabit the area. From the lookout point, the African lodge, you are literally in the middle of the aviary.
