Experience the nature of Zeeland in the Terra Maris museum! Come face to face with a cuttlefish, dogfish or sea needle. And discover the oldest part of the Netherlands, beautiful VR films, exciting skeletons, stuffed animals, the water playground, the medieval motte castle and much more.

Museum and landscape garden

Terra Maris means land of the sea. In the museum and the landscape garden you can discover the nature of Zeeland.

Various sea aquariums, beautiful models, VR films, 3D viewers, skeletons, archaeological finds and stuffed animals tell everything about the origin of the Zeeland landscape and the nature of the delta area. And what a mammoth has to do with a pair of jeans can be found in the temporary exhibition about the Climate and the Power of Nature.

In the 2.5 ha landscape garden you can see all types of landscapes of Zeeland. From orchard to dike and from farmland to mini dune. Walk, look and wonder. Enjoy butterflies and insects in the flower garden, catch water animals in the ponds, step into the world of the honeybee in ’t Raathuis, walk to the drinking well or climb the motte castle on the refuge hill. Want to play for a while? A life-size snail shell, the balance snake, water playground, tidal seesaw and climbing pyramids: try them out!

Museum café and museum shop

For a delicious coffee & tea with fresh apple pie, walnut pie or a delicious lunch, come to the cozy museum café ‘de Orangerie’. When the sun is shining, the terraces are open. In our museum shop there is always something nice to find for young and old.

Museum Terra Maris organizes fun activities all year round. During the school holidays there is something to do every day and in addition, during the summer holidays you can go back in time on Tuesdays at our Medieval Festivals! Check the website for all the latest information.

Accessibility

Terra Maris is located in the former orangery of Kasteel Westhove. This is located in the beautiful nature reserve De Manteling van Walcheren, between Oostkapelle and Domburg.

Consult Google Maps for the exact route and current departure and travel times. If you come by car, you can park (free from November to February) at the Westhove car park. From there it is about a 5 minute walk to the museum.
