More information
The World Pavilion Steyl is a unique cultural and educational experience center in the monastery village of Steyl, near Venlo. In this unique attraction, visitors are introduced to other cultures in an interactive way, with a special focus on Nicaragua and Ghana. The motto of the World Pavilion is therefore: “experience, live, and do”.
A visit begins in a special way: visitors step aboard a real Fokker 50 JetSTAR and, as it were, embark on a journey to another world. Once “landed,” they discover daily life in Nicaragua and Ghana through films, interactive games, Virtual Reality, music, workshops, and creative activities. For example, children can make toys from recycled materials, design jewelry, participate in a market game, or learn about themes such as fair trade, child labor, and refugee issues.
The World Pavilion opened in 2014 in the former printing house of the Saint Michael Mission House. This historic building aligns perfectly with the international and missionary history of Steyl. The initiative came from René Poels and the Meerlo-Wanssum Development Cooperation Foundation, with the aim of instilling in visitors a greater understanding and respect for other cultures. In doing so, the World Pavilion aims to contribute to global citizenship and better cooperation between people worldwide.
In addition to recreational visits, the Wereldpaviljoen also welcomes many school classes and groups. The center offers educational programs for young and old and has grown into a popular attraction in Limburg. It has received several awards, including a place in the top three of “most social outings in the Netherlands” according to the ANWB.
